Why Choose Our Practice?

Experience and Reputation:

Dr. Loetscher has been practicing in the metro Atlanta area for over 25 years. In those years he has developed a reputation as one of the top Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. This is especially true for his 3 areas of expertise: dental implant surgery, wisdom teeth removal, and orthognathic surgery.

Dentistry has undergone an unprecedented change in the technology revolution. We have taken advantages of these changes by implementing them to provide our patients with innovative surgical experiences – improving comfort and success in many ways.

His surgical experience in dental implants is second to none in the area, having one of the largest dental practices in the region for over two decades. Dr. Loetscher’s skill in providing your restorative dentists with properly placed implants in the anterior esthetic zone for beautiful teeth is unmatched. This takes proper site preparation and implant placement. We are the only implant surgical practice with a full time lab technician, allowing us to fabricate provisional teeth placed the day of implant placement. These are beautiful high-tech CAD/CAM milled teeth ranging from a single tooth to a whole arch of teeth.

As a clinician Dr. Loetscher has developed the skills of a true hybrid surgeon, with equal and current state-of-the-art skill sets in both hard and soft tissue grafting for implant reconstruction.

Staff Experience:

The surgical staff has been with Dr. Loetscher for years, and have unsurpassed experience in simple and complex oral & maxillofacial surgical procedures.

Training and Expertise:

Dr. Loetscher attended the prestigious Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training program at the Ohio State University. While there, he also obtained a Master’s degree in Bone Grafting. The Ohio State program has excelled for years in it’s training in the areas of Dental Implantology, Orthognathic Surgery, and Anesthesia. In addition, Dr. Loetscher lectures on topics of Dental Implants and Orthognathic Surgery. Both he and his staff attend regional and national meetings to stay up to date on the latest and safest techniques.

Dr. Loetscher is highly experienced in all new modalities of dental Implant treating, including ancillary bone grafting procedures.

In 2015, Dr. Loetscher became recognized as a Kois Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Very few Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons have achieved this status. Dr. John Kois’s Institute in Seattle (Kois Center for Advanced Dentistry Through Science) is considered by many to be the elite education forum for dentists to achieve the highest degree of up to date and accurate knowledge.

Along these same lines, Dr. Loetscher also actively participates in the Spear Institute for advanced training. The Spear programs have included “Facially Generated Treatment Planning” which combines the surgeon’s skills in orthognathic surgery and implant dentistry to reconstruct patient’s faces and smiles for maximum esthetics and function. Dr. Loetscher trained in the Spear’s workshops “Treating the Edentulous Arch”, and “Occlusion in Clinical Practice”. In addition, Dr. Loetscher also heads up the Alpharetta Spear Study Club, which are joint training sessions with Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Orthodontists, and Restorative Dentists.

Board Certification:

Dr. Loetscher is dual board certified by both the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology. These are rigorous written and oral examinations taken after you have been in private practice, signifying that you excel in your specialty and have a thorough understanding of all facets of the specialty. Dr. Loetscher is one of the small percentage of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons to earn this degree of excellence in his specialty.

Use of Autogenous Bone:

One of the hallmarks of Dr. Loetscher’s practice is the mostly exclusive use of autogenous bone for dental implants. Autogenous bone is your own bone, rather than cadaver or animal derived bone. Autogenous bone is the gold standard for use around dental implants, and gives patients both the highest short term and long term success. Many practitioners substitute the easier to use cadaver or animal (bovine) bone to place around dental implants. Although this is more convenient, it is well documented that long-term success is lower, and the complication rate much higher when not using autogenous bone. For years Dr. Loetscher has used only autogenous bone to augment dental implant sites. His practice has evolved to achieve this with the most predictability and least patient discomfort. It also is the reason his dental implant surgery and long-term implant success is extremely high.

Anesthesia Safety:

Is your doctor board certified in anesthesia? Does he actually do general anesthesia, or a sedation termed general anesthesia? The state’s requirements are minimal, but we take the quality and safety of anesthesia to the highest possible level:

Questions to ask your doctor when undergoing outpatient anesthesia:

  • Is there a registered nurse (RN) present?
  • Is it a true general anesthesia where the airway is protected, or a deep sedation called “general anesthesia”?
  • Is back-up power available such as with a generator?

All of the above are part of your care with Dr. Loetscher. Plus many other safety and quality features for the best anesthesia experience and environment possible.
