Dental Insurance & Payment Information in Atlanta
Atlanta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is happy to assist patients with insurance filing as a courtesy. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards, and we will submit insurance claims on your behalf for reimbursement when applicable.
How Dental Insurance Works at Our Atlanta Office
While we are not in “in network” with any insurance companies, our team is dedicated to helping you use and maximize your dental benefits.
If we have received all of your insurance information on the day of your appointment, we will be happy to file your claim. Patients are responsible for understanding their individual insurance benefits.
By law, insurance companies are required to process claims within 30-40 business days of receipt. We submit claims on the day of treatment and typically collect any estimated co-pay at the time of your visit. You are responsible for any remaining balance after your insurance company has completed processing your claim.
Balances not paid within 60 days following insurance processing may be subject to a rebilling fee of 1.5% per month. If your insurance pays more than initially estimated, we will promptly issue a refund.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Dental Insurance
Our surgeons participate with insurance plans differently.
Dr. Christian A. Loetscher practices as an out-of-network provider with all insurance plans. While he is not contracted with insurance companies, we gladly file insurance claims on your behalf and patients typically receive out-of-network benefits according to their plan.
Dr. Paul Cho is in-network with select insurance plans. Patients treated by Dr. Cho may receive in-network benefits when covered by one of the participating plans listed below. Network participation may vary by plan and employer group.

How Dental Insurance Coverage and Payment Responsibility Works
We file insurance as a courtesy to our patients. We do not have a contract with your insurance company-only you do. We are not responsible for how your insurance company processes claims or determines benefits. While we can help estimate your portion of treatment costs, we cannot guarantee coverage or payment amounts.
Using Your Dental Insurance Benefits at Our Atlanta Office
Most PPO insurance plans provide benefits for both in-network and out-of-network providers. “Preferred providers” agree to accept significantly discounted reimbursement rates—often 50–60% of standard fees.
Operating under these reduced reimbursements frequently requires providers to shorten appointment times, increase patient volume, or limit staffing. We believe this environment compromises quality, thoroughness, and patient-centered care. Our practice has chosen not to participate in discounted fee schedules for this reason.
While we are not contracted to accept discounted in-network fees for most plans, we do accept your insurance, file claims on your behalf, and help you receive the benefits available under your plan.
Key Facts About Dental Insurance Coverage
- Fact 1: No Insurance Pays 100% of All Procedures
Insurance is designed to assist with care-not fully cover it. Most plans pay approximately 50–80% of the allowable fee, depending on the plan and employer contract.
- Fact 2: Benefits Are Determined by Your Insurance Company
Insurance companies establish their own fee schedules and “allowable” amounts, which may be based on outdated data. These amounts do not necessarily reflect current or customary fees in the Atlanta healthcare community.
- Fact 3: Deductibles & Percentages Apply
Deductibles and coverage percentages directly affect your final responsibility. Even when a procedure is covered, a portion of the fee is typically the patient’s responsibility.
